Suz's Quick and Easy Bulgogi Sukiyaki Style
I grew up in Asia and loved to watch my mom cook and perfect different Korean and Japanese dishes. I credit her love of making delicious things and keeping us all craving her food!
Ingredients
1/3 cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons of Mirin or white dry sherry
3 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
3 cloves garlic, minced
3 tablespoon sesame oil
2 teaspoon minced fresh ginger or to taste
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 Asian pear (chopped if mixing or cut if blending)
3 green onions, chopped, dark green parts separated from white stem and light green parts (cut off roots)
1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
2 pounds beef sirloin, cut very thin or Trader Joes shaved beef
Optional to your taste
2 teaspoons toasted sesame seeds
2 teaspoons gochujang sauce*
1 teaspoon hot pepper flakes*
1 cup of julienned carrots for a little sweeter taste
Directions
Mix or blend soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, garlic, sesame oil, ginger, pepper, white and light parts of green onion and Asian pear, this is the secret ingredient to bulgogi!
Put in a bowl or bag to marinate at least 1 hour.
Fire up a shallow, level pan on medium high heat and saute' gently spread marinated beef on to heated pan
Gently turn sections of meat until browned and turn down heat to medium
Add reserved green onions or optional sesame seeds, hot pepper flakes, carrots.
Cook until the Asian pear and other ingredients become a beef jus, or what I call sukiyaki style bulgogi!
